KUALA LUMPUR (May 1): Malaysia reported 2,881 Covid-19 cases today, compared with 3,788 yesterday, raising the country's total number of infections to 411,594.
The number of Covid-19 related fatalities rose to 1,521 after 15 more deaths, all of them Malaysians, were reported in the 24 hours as of noon.
All but 16 of the new cases were local infections, comprising 2,609 Malaysians and 256 foreigners, said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
He said in a statement that Selangor once again had the highest number of new cases at 759, followed by Sarawak with 445 cases, Kelantan (442), Kuala Lumpur (315) and Johor (310).
Penang saw 133 new cases, followed by Kedah (111), Negeri Sembilan (89), Sabah (64), Perak (64), Melaka (54), Pahang (47), Terengganu (42), Labuan (three) and Putrajaya (three). Perlis had no new infections.
Noor Hisham said another 2,462 patients were reported to have recovered, bringing the country's total number of recoveries to 380,442.
He added that there were now 29,631 active cases, including 337 patients in intensive care units (ICUs) and 176 requiring respiratory assistance.
