KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 27): Malaysia reported today 2,364 newly-confirmed Covid-19 cases, which brought the total number of infected individuals in the country to 298,315 so far. The nation reported 10 additional deaths due to the pandemic.

The Ministry of Health (MoH) said via Twitter that the Covid-19-related deaths reported today brought the total number of fatalities in the country due to the pandemic to 1,121 so far.

According to the MoH, the newly-confirmed Covid-19 cases today comprise 2,363 locally-infected persons and one imported case.

The MoH said 190 Covid-19 patients are being treated in intensive care units, 99 of whom need breathing assistance.

Meanwhile, 3,320 individuals were reported to have recovered from Covid-19 today, bringing the total Covid-19 recoveries in the country to 270,166 so far.

Meanwhile, health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said via Twitter that the locally-infected persons reported today comprised 1,455 Malaysians and 908 foreigners.

Dr Noor Hisham said the sole imported case involves a Malaysian.

“[The country’s] total number of active [Covid-19] cases stood at 27,028,” he said.

Meanwhile, the deceased reported today were eight Malaysians and two foreigners, according to him.

He said the country’s total number of Covid-19-related deaths at 1,121 so far accounts for 0.38% of the cumulative figure of infected individuals across the nation at 298,315 so far. 

Geographically, the highest number of new Covid-19 cases reported today came from Selangor at 862 followed by Johor (314) and Perak (305), according to Dr Noor Hisham.

He said there were no fresh Covid-19 cases reported in Labuan and Perlis.

Across Malaysia, the 2,364 newly-confirmed Covid-19 cases today is an increase from the 2,253 reported yesterday, according to Dr Noor Hisham.

On Thursday (Feb 25), the country's daily number of fresh Covid-19 cases dropped significantly to 1,924 from 3,545 on Wednesday (Feb 24), he said.

Eight new Covid-19 clusters were reported across Malaysia today. Bernama, quoting Dr Noor Hisham’s statement, reported that out of the eight new clusters identified today, seven are workplace-related while the eighth, the Buloh cluster in Sarawak, is community-based. Five of the workplace clusters were reported in Johor, namely Jalan Scientex Jaya; Jalan Mega Teknologi; Jalan Permas Sembilan; Jalan Gemilang Satu and Jalan Tampoi, and one each in Kelantan (Kampung Pulau Raja) and Perak (Jalan Tasek Avenue). Dr Noor Hisham said that so far, the country has recorded a total of 1,129 clusters, 485 of which are active, adding also that 16 clusters ended today.
