KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 2): Malaysia's new COVID-19 cases dropped to six today — of which four were imported and two were local transmissions — bringing the total positive cases detected so far to 9,360, according to the Ministry of Health.

Active cases, however, rose to 153 from 151 reported yesterday, with four more COVID-19 patients recovered. This raised total recoveries to 9,079, representing a recovery rate of 97%.

Death toll from the coronavirus in the country, meanwhile, stayed at 128, as no new fatalities were recorded, according to Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a statement.

“As of now, there are four COVID-19 patients receiving treatment in the intensive care unit, with three requiring ventilator support,” he said.

As for the imported cases, all four individuals were non-Malaysians who contracted the virus in Indonesia and Syria.

Three of the imported cases were those who travelled from Indonesia while one travelled from Syria. All of them were detected in Kuala Lumpur.

As for the two local transmissions, one was a local linked to the MV Glen cluster in Klang, Selangor, while the other, also a local, was an asymptomatic patient in Pahang.

According to Noor Hisham, the latest case from the MV Glen cluster involved the wife of a COVID-19 positive patient who was reported to have contracted the virus from the same cluster on Aug 30.

So far, 58 individuals in the cluster have been screened, with three having been tested positive, 16 negative while the remaining 39 are still awaiting test results.

On the Enhanced Movement Control Order enforced in three locations in Amanjaya, Kedah, Noor Hisham said some 12,870 have been screened so far, with one testing positive, 12,687 testing negative and 182 awaiting test results.
