KUALA LUMPUR (July 4): Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah declared today the end of the Covid-19 residential cluster at the Pudu area, where the outbreak has been contained.

“The cluster’s first positive Covid-19 case was identified on May 10, 2020 following a Covid-19 screening for workers,” he said in a statement today.

As of yesterday, he said 3,387 people from the cluster have been tested. The test identified 80 positive Covid-19 cases, involving 78 foreigners and two Malaysians.

The 78 foreigners comprised 69 Bangladesh citizens, seven Myanmar nationals and two Indonesians.

According to Dr Noor Hisham, administrative control was implemented in the cluster with the help of other agencies to undertake active case detection followed by infection containment measures.

"Investigative findings show that the factor contributing to the spread of Covid-19 within the cluster was the congested accommodation with narrow space. The situation resulted in the absence of safe social distancing among those who tested positive,” he said.
