KUALA LUMPUR (June 6): Active Covid-19 cases in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur, which saw the largest number of cases in the country, declined to 578 cases in the two-week period from May 23 to noon yesterday.

According to the Ministry of Health (MoH), the number of cases in Cheras declined by 25 active cases, from the 603 cases registered on Thursday following lower new case numbers from Pudu, the Cheras apartment and Bukit Jalil immigration detention centre located in the district.

Data provided by the ministry indicated that the Pudu Cluster saw one new active case yesterday, bringing the to cluster’s total to 18 active cases.

The Cheras apartment cluster reported one new active case as well, bringing total active cases in the cluster to seven.

The Bukit Jalil immigration cluster saw no new case yesterday, bringing the total amount of active cases in the cluster to 606.

In Kuala Lumpur, the only other district to report more than 40 active cases (categorised as a red zone) was Lembah Pantai, which reported 76 cases at noon yesterday, down from 77 posted on Thursday.

Total active cases in Kuala Lumpur declined to 658, from 685 on Thursday.

Meanwhile in Selangor, the only red zones were Hulu Langat (82 active cases) and Sepang (62 active cases).

The only red zones in the country were Hulu Langat, Sepang, Cheras, Lembah Pantai and Rembau in Negeri Sembilan (which reported 94 active cases yesterday).

The states which saw no active case whatsoever were Penang, Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu, Labuan and Perlis.

Pahang saw its active cases decline by one case to 22 cases. Johor and Putrajaya saw their cases remain flat at four each. Sabah saw its active cases rise to eight, from six previously, while Sarawak’s active case tally declined by one to five active cases. Melaka also saw its active cases rise by one to four, with Perak still having one active case.

In total, some 996 active cases were detected in the two-week period.

Yesterday saw Malaysia’s active caseload decline to 19, from 277 on Thursday. Twelve were local transmissions, while seven were imported cases.

The local transmissions involved nine Malaysians and three non-citizens. Total infections in the country now stood at 8,266 – with 1,540 total active cases present.

Six patients were in intensive care units with one of them requiring respiratory support. Yesterday also saw 51 recoveries, bringing total recoveries to 6,610 – translating into a recovery rate of 80% of total cases.

One new fatality was recorded after 13 days of no death, bringing the death toll from the virus in Malaysia to 116, or 1.4% of overall cases.

The deceased was a 61-year-old man who had diabetes, high blood pressure and kidney cancer. Admitted to the Enche’ Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital in Johor on May 29, he was pronounced dead yesterday at 10.20pm.
