KUALA LUMPUR (May 8): The Ministry of Health (MoH) confirmed that 60 positive cases have been detected in the Pedas cluster.

These positive cases involve seven Malaysians and 53 foreigners, who are from Nepal (25), Bangladesh (18), Indonesia (8) and Myanmar (2).

However, the source of infections is still under investigation, said health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a statement.

On May 2, the ministry identified one cluster involving a factory worker in Pedas, Negeri Sembilan.

This comes after the index case was feeling unwell and started to experience fever, cough, flu, breathing difficulty and headache on April 5.

The index case tested positive for Covid-19 on April 12, after undergoing a screening test at a clinic.

Investigations and screening tests for those who had close contact with the index case have been conducted.

As at noon today, 786 people have been screened, including the factory workers and their family members.

Noor Hisham said 286 tested negative while results for another 440 are pending.

The MoH has advised all workers to seek treatment at the nearest clinics and urged them to not go to work if they started to experience several symptoms, adding that they need to maintain good hygiene such as always keeping their hands clean and using hand sanitizer.

Malaysia has reported 68 new cases today, bringing the cumulative cases to 6,535.

Meanwhile, 88 patients were discharged today. This brought the total recoveries in the country to 4,864.

The death toll remains at 107 as no new fatalities were reported.
