KUALA LUMPUR (April 28): There were 470 active cases in Kuala Lumpur recorded as of noon yesterday – the highest in the country, compared with Johor (235 active cases) and Selangor (186).

The capital city has seen the sharpest increase in cumulative confirmed positive cases among all the states and federal territories this month.

The number of confirmed infections in Kuala Lumpur had soared rapidly since the second phase of the movement control order (MCO) to 1,200 cases as of yesterday, up 770 this month alone.

In comparison, other states with high Covid-19 cases, namely Selangor (1,398 cumulative cases), Sarawak (488) and Johor (659), saw increases of 694, 332, and 310 respectively.

The 30 new cases in the capital were part of the total 40 reported yesterday, in which four imported cases were found among Malaysians returning from abroad, according to the Ministry of Health (MoH).

Based on the statistics provided by the MoH’s Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre, Lembah Pantai recorded the highest number of active cases at 289, compared with the number of confirmed infections of 751.

Two other health districts in Kuala Lumpur recorded more than 41 active cases, namely Kepong (88 active cases versus 193 confirmed infections) and Titiwangsa (60 compared with 155).

Meanwhile, Cheras recorded 33 active cases, fewer than the number of confirmed infections at 101.

There are currently several enhanced MCO zones in the capital city, including Menara City One, Selangor Mansion, Pusat Bandar Utara, Selayang Baru and areas around Masjid India.

Malaysia has reported 5,820 of total infections across the country, with 1,764 active cases.

The number of active cases fell by 56 from 1,820 reported on Sunday – the lowest since March 27.

There were three red zones across the country which had no active case as of noon yesterday, namely Hilir Perak (65 confirmed infections), Kota Baru (90) and Rembau (53). 

The ministry said as at noon yesterday, 12 health districts had recorded more than 41 active cases (red zones), 68 had one to 40 active cases (yellow zones) and 77 had no active case (green zones).

Yesterday, Malaysia’s daily recoveries topped the number of daily infections, with 95 cured cases against 40 new cases.

This brought total recoveries in the country to 3,957 or 67.9% of overall cases.

The death toll continued to climb to 99 after a 78-year-old man succumbed to the disease yesterday.
