KUALA LUMPUR (June 1): Malaysia recorded 38 new Covid-19 cases today, comprising 26 imported cases and 12 local transmissions.

This brings the total number of cases in the country so far to 7,857, said health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

No new deaths were reported, maintaining the toll at 115. This accounts for 1.46% of total cases, Dr Noor Hisham said at his daily Covid-19 media briefing.

He said that of the 26 imported cases, 20 involved Malaysians returning from Egypt, while there were four cases of returnees from Indonesia and two from Britain.

With this, the total number of infectious patients who had returned from abroad is 508, he said.

Meanwhile, of the 12 local transmissions, six cases involved migrant workers.

Dr Noor Hisham said another 51 patients were discharged as of noon today, raising total recoveries to 6,404. This gives a recovery rate of 81.5%.

The number of active cases dropped to 1,338 from 1,351 reported yesterday. This left eight patients in intensive care units, with two of them needing respiratory assistance.
