(Sept 17): Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) will issue a clean-up bill estimated at RM50,000 to the organiser of yesterday's “red shirt” rally, after a similar bill was given to electoral reform group Bersih 2.0 earlier this month.

Mayor Datuk Mohd Amin Nordin Abdul Aziz said Alam Flora is currently doing the costings before the bill is submitted to martial arts group, National Silat Federation (Pesaka).

"Yes, Alam Flora is doing the costings," he told The Malaysian Insider when asked if a clean-up bill would be issued.

He said the bill is expected to be sent to Pesaka within the next two weeks.

Yesterday's “red shirt” rally, also called Himpunan Rakyat Bersatu, held by a coalition of Malay non-governmental organisations, was to counter last month's Bersih 4, which the organisers claimed had insulted the integrity of the Malay race.

Pekida president Jamaluddin Yusof had described the rally as "jihad" and an estimate of 10,000 members were present.

Filled with incendiary remarks and racially-charged banners and placards, the rally saw some tense moments when participants were upset over questions asked by some journalists.

Riot police sprayed chemical-laced water on a group of rowdy rally-goers who attempted to breach the barricades to gain access to Petaling Street.

Following yesterday's rally, many Malaysians took to social media posting pictures of rubbish strewn all over Padang Merbok – where the rally goers gathered, and asked if a clean-up bill will be issued towards the organisers.

Earlier this month, DBKL sent a RM65,000 bill to Bersih 2.0 for the clean-up costs for its Bersih 4 rally.

However, Bersih 2.0 chairman Maria Chin Abdullah had said they would not pay a single sen and will challenge any payment request in court. – The Malaysian Insider
