KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 1): China Communications Construction (ECRL) Sdn Bhd (CCC-ECRL), the contractor of the mega East Coast Rail Link project, has confirmed today that a 30-year-old staff from its basecamp in Maran, Pahang, has been tested positive for Covid-19.

"He works in our laboratory in an independent environment that is located in a separate section of our basecamp and away from our various work sites.

"Following the instructions from the Ministry of Health (MoH), those who have been in close contact with him are being tested for Covid-19, as well as undergoing 14-day self quarantine," it said in a statement late yesterday night.

It issued the statement after the Pahang State Health Department announced the new case earlier yesterday.

"Meanwhile, we have proceeded with shutting down the said laboratory for thorough sanitization, in accordance with the standard operation procedure (SOP) issued by MoH.

"We believe this is a localized, isolated incident and will not affect the overall progress of the ECRL project," it added.

Malaysia reported 659 new Covid-19 infections yesterday, 80.3% or 529 of which came from the worst-hit state of Sabah, while the Klang Valley contributed 10.6% or 70 cases.
