KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 20): Malaysian businessman Tan Sri Vincent Tan Chee Yioun (pictured), who owns the Cardiff City Football Club, has turned down two separate takeover bids for the UK-based entity in recent months because he did not feel either was in the best interests of the club, Wales Online reported, quoting Cardiff City chairman Mehmet Dalman.

Wales Online reported on Tuesday (Feb 18) that football website Transfermarkt ranks Cardiff City as the fifth most-valuable club in the Premier League Championship at just under £70 million (about RM377 million).

"The takeover attempts came from interested parties from abroad and are understood to have been made within the last year," Wales Online said.

It was reported that Dalman revealed news of the attempted takeover moves at a fans' question and answer session.

"I discussed each of them with Vincent. He didn't want to go," said Dalman.

It was reported that Tan took over Cardiff City just under 10 years ago, heading up a Malaysian consortium, which purchased 30% of Cardiff City shares before increasing the stake to 90%.
