KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 30): Bursa Malaysia's technology index, which includes semiconductor manufacturers, fell the most in percentage terms at the afternoon break today as share prices of Malaysian Pacific Industries Bhd (MPI), Unisem (M) Bhd and Globetronics Technology Bhd dropped among the exchange's top decliners.

At 12:30pm, the technology index settled down 0.55 point or 1.49% at 36.38. MPI fell 40 sen or 3.58% to RM10.78, Unisem dropped 14 sen or 5.76% to RM2.29 while Globetronics was down eight sen or 3.64% at RM2.12.

Globetronics and Unisem had earlier reported weaker quarterly financial results.

Yesterday, Globetronics said net profit fell to RM18.94 million in the third quarter ended Sept 30, 2019 (3QFY19) from RM23.6 million a year earlier. For 9MFY19, Globetronics said cumulative net profit dropped to RM30.18 million from RM48.13 million a year earlier.

On Friday, Unisem said net loss stood at RM3.21 million in 3QFY19 versus net profit of RM35.15 million a year earlier. Cumulative 9MFY19 net profit fell to RM17.31 million from RM72.34 million a year earlier.

MPI has yet to announce its latest quarterly financial results.
