KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 22): Bursa Energy Index fell as much as 17.54 points or 2.28% to 752.26 on Monday (Nov 22) morning as oil prices extended losses.

At 9.44am, the Energy Index had pared some losses at 754.19, still down 15.61 points or 2.03%.

Oil and gas stock Hengyuan Refining Company Bhd was the fifth top loser on the bourse, falling 11 sen or 2.64% to RM4.05.

Dialog Group Bhd, Hibiscus Petroleum Bhd, Yinson Holdings Bhd and Coastal Contracts Bhd were also among the top 30 losers.

Dialog slipped seven sen or 2.47% to RM2.76; Hibiscus tumbled five sen or 6.1% to 77 sen; Yinson slid four sen or 0.68% to RM5.85; Coastal lost 3.5 sen or 3.47% to 97.5 sen.

Reuters reported that US crude prices dropped in early trade on Monday, extending big losses last Friday after Japan said on the weekend it was considering releasing oil reserves to help dampen prices.

At the time of writing, US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil had fallen 0.26% to US$75.54 (about RM316.29), while Brent Crude oil slipped 0.24% to US$78.70.

According to Reuters, WTI and Brent prices slumped around 3% last Friday.
