KUALA LUMPUR (July 15): Bumi Armada Bhd has appointed former Employees Provident Fund (EPF) chief executive officer (CEO) Tunku Alizakri Alias as an independent director effective today.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia today, Bumi Armada said the 51-year-old has 20 years of experience in senior management and board-level roles in multiple sectors and industries, which include retirement fund, financial services, central banking, healthcare, media and telecommunication, plantation, oil and gas, and property development.

Bumi Armada noted that Alizakri’s last executive role was as CEO of EPF, the seventh largest global retirement fund with around US$250 billion assets under management.

“His areas of expertise include sustainability, enterprise digitalisation and transformation, corporate strategy and fund management.

“Prior to joining EPF, Tunku Alizakri was the chief marketing officer and chief operating officer of the Iclif Leadership and Governance Centre. 

“He also held the positions of director of strategic management at Bank Negara Malaysia, director and head of the strategy and corporate affairs at DiGi Telecommunications Bhd, and vice-president and head of group strategic planning at Malayan Banking Bhd,” it added.

Bumi Armada said Alizakri is currently a board member of Kwasa Utama Sdn Bhd, Battersea Project Holding Company Ltd, Battersea Project Land Company Ltd, and vice-chairperson of the technical commission on organisation, management and innovation for the International Social Security Association.

He also sits on the boards of IHH Healthcare Bhd and Sime Darby Plantation Bhd.
