BENTONG (Apr 28): Candidates from all three coalitions, namely Barisan Nasional (BN), Pakatan Harapan (PH), and Gagasan Sejahtera have filed their nomination papers for the upcoming 14th General Election (GE14) here today.
 
At 8am this morning, MCA President Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai and BN state assemblymen candidates showed up at Jalan Loke Yew here and greeted his supporters, before marching to the nomination centre at a hall within the Bentong Municipality Council office compound.
 
At the nomination centre, Liow met Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob.
 
Subsequently, Gagasan Sejahtera candidates arrived at the nomination centre, followed by PH candidates.
 
By 10am, all candidates had completed their filing, while the Bentong district officer cum Returning officer Datuk Azhar Arshad announced the candidacies.
 
All coalitions' supporters were chanting their respective party slogans out of the nomination centre.
 
Enforcement officers like Federal Reserve Unit and Royal Malaysian Police were present as well.

Bentong has total registered voters of 67,359, of which 47% are Malay, 44% Chinese, 8% Indian and about 1% voters are indigenous people.

Other than Liow, the Bentong Parliamentary seat candidate also included  environmentalist Wong Tack, and PAS’ non-Muslim arm Dewan Himpunan Penyokong PAS chairman Balasubramaniam A/L Nachiappan.

In GE13, when Liow won by a slim majority of 379 votes, Bentong’s total registered voters were 62,266, with turnout rate of 84.5%.

Back then, Wong got 25,568 votes, versus Liow’s 25,947 votes, while 988 votes were rejected.
