SHAH ALAM: Selangor Menteri Besar (MB) Mohamed Azmin Ali announced yesterday the reduction of salaries of the MB, Speaker, deputy Speaker and executive councillors (exco), effective Jan 1 next year.

The salary cut, ranging from 14% to 33%, was part of his efforts to reduce the state government’s administrative expenditure after taking over from Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.

The new MB made a promise to slash the salaries as he felt the rate was too high.

Under the new salary structure, Mohamed Azmin said the Speaker’s salary of RM22,500 would be reduced 33.33% to RM15,000, the deputy Speaker from RM15,750 to RM10,000 (36.51%), MB from RM29,250 to RM25,000 (14.53%) and excos from RM20,250 to RM15,000 (25.93%). — The Malaysian Insider
