KUALA LUMPUR (May 26): AMMB Holdings Bhd's (AmBank Group) chairman Tan Sri Azman Hashim said increasing his stake in the banking group was one of the options for him should the ANZ Group decides to sell its shares.

"I'm just looking at the options first. If they are selling, then it [buying more stake] is one of the options," he told reporters on the sidelines of the 20th Malaysian Banking Summit.

"We don't know yet. I am looking at all the options. We'll see," he said, when asked if he will be increasing his stake in the banking group.

According to earlier reports, ANZ Banking Group is said to be considering the sale of its 24% stake in AmBank Group and is also seeking to reduce its 20% stake in China's Shanghai Rural Commerciral Bank as the Australian bank steps up efforts to exit minority stakes in Asia.

At 12.15 pm, shares of AmBank Group were traded 5 sen or 1.14% lower at RM4.32, for a market capitalisation of RM13.02 billion.
