KUALA LUMPUR (July 15): The Employees Provident Fund (EPF) raised its stake in Axiata Group Bhd to 14.89% from 14.72% after receiving shares from Axiata's dividend reinvestment plan (DRP).

In a statement to Bursa Malaysia today, mobile-telecommunication network provider Axiata said the EPF had last Monday (July 11) received some 30.3 million shares under the DRP. Including the additional shares, the EPF owned 1.33 billion shares or a 14.89% stake in Axiata.

Axiata's announcement on EPF's stake in the company followed a statement yesterday (July 14) on Axiata's corporate reorganisation. The reorganisation will see existing key executives taking on new roles within Axiata's global operations.

Among others, Axiata said subsidary Celcom Axiata Bhd chief executive officer (CEO) Datuk Seri Shazalli Ramly will take on the role of Axiata's regional CEO for Southeast Asia.

Shazalli's appointment as Axiata's regional CEO for Southeast Asia will be effective this Sept 1, according to Axiata.

Today, Axiata shares rose 22 sen or 4% to close at RM5.70 for a market value of RM50.79 billion. The third-largest gainer on Bursa Malaysia saw some nine million shares traded.
