KUALA LUMPUR (April 30): Datuk Asri Hamidin @ Hamidon has been appointed as the Treasury secretary-general effective tomorrow (May 1), chief secretary to the government Datuk Seri Mohd Zuki Ali announced today.

Asri, 54, will be replacing Tan Sri Ahmad Badri Mohd Zahir, whose contract has ended, according to a statement by Mohd Zuki.

Asri has been in public service for 26 years since June 1, 1994, starting with the post of assistant director in the Economic Planning Unit.

“Leading positions held [by Asri] include deputy treasury secretary-general (policy), secretary in the department of investment companies, and deputy secretary in the department of investments, Minister of Finance Inc and Privatisation,” the statement read.

Asri holds a master’s degree in economics from Japan’s Hiroshima University. His first degree, obtained from Universiti Malaya, is also in economics.

“On behalf of the government, I would like to express the highest gratitude and thanks to Tan Sri Ahmad Badri Mohd Zahir for his contributions to the nation as a civil servant for the past 31 years,” Mohd Zuki added.
