KUALA LUMPUR (March 18): PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim (PH-Port Dickson) has tabled an emergency motion in Dewan Rakyat to debate the recent mass shooting event at two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, which resulted in 50 fatalities.

Subsequent to the ministerial question and answer session in Dewan Rakyat today, Anwar condemned the terror attack as a "cowardly act" aimed to cause fear and suspicion among non-Muslims against Muslims.

"This tragedy is a lesson to us in Malaysia to preserve harmony and peace in a multi-racial society and do not support hatred and divisive politics.

"Therefore, I submit this proposal to state Malaysian Parliament's firm stand to condemn such terror attack against pilgrims in Al Noor and Linwood Mosque in Christchurch, New Zealand," he said.

Speaker Datuk Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof allowed the motion and asked for a minister to make the proposal for such motion to be debated today, which was subsequently done by Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law) Mohamed Hanipa Maidin (PH-Sepang).

Mohamad Ariff then decided that the debate will begin at 4:30pm today.
