KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 5): Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has slammed sexual misconduct accusations leveled against him by a former research officer, as a bid to tarnish his image ahead of the PKR national congress this weekend and transition of power.
“I strongly deny the baseless slander,” he said in a statement today.
Ex-staffer Muhammad Yusoff Rawther had accused the Port Dickson lawmaker of indecent exposure, molesting and propositioning him at the PKR leader’s home in Segambut Oct 2 last year, in a statutory declaration that he read out in a video published on Facebook yesterday.
Anwar said on the date of the alleged incident, he was campaigning for the Port Dickson by-election.
In addition, he participated in a ceremony to commemorate Mahatma Ghandi’s 150th birthday in Kuala Lumpur and then returned to Port Dickson for the rest of his campaign.
“My private secretary Shukri Saad will make a police report on the issue and my lawyer Ramkarpal Singh will also send a letter of demand to [Yusoff].
Anwar also highlighted that his accuser’s great-uncle Mohideen Abdul Kader had issued a statement earlier, saying he has been manipulated by politicians.
