KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 12): Shares in low cost carriers AirAsia Bhd and AirAsia X Bhd rose in active trade this morning following a series of tweets from AirAsia Bhd (AAX) group chief executive Tan Sri Tony Fernandes this morning, indicating positive news flow for both carriers.

At 9.22am, AirAsia was up 1.06% to RM3.81 with 1.83 million shares traded, while AAX rose 0.5 sen to 38.5 sen with 6.33 million shares done.

Fernandes had first tweeted “Cleaning up balance sheet in AIRASIA x as we started in the 4th quarter . 2018 looking good”.

This was followed by another tweet that said that AAX does not feel that the long haul market is ready and that it was “not interested in Berlin, London etc. Firmly focused on medium haul routes.”

Fernandes also tweeted that AirAsia will be transfering routes that are over 4 hours to AAX as they had matured and using that capacity for more profitable shorter haul routes.

“Win win,” he said.
