KUALA LUMPUR: Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia said the Auditor-General’s (AG) final audit report on 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) is not tabled in Parliament because it is a classified document under the Official Secrets Act (OSA).

Pandikar Amin said the AG’s report is only for the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

“I was informed by the AG that the report is a special report for the PAC in the 1MDB’s investigation. According to him, the document is classified as a secret document and the document has not [been] declassified as of now,” he told Dewan Rakyat yesterday.

“So, I am not allowed to divulge anything that is still a secret, and cannot be tabled to Dewan Rakyat. If I allow it, [then] I will [be] violating the OSA,” he added.

Pandikar Amin was replying to a question by Gopeng member of parliament (MP) Lee Boon Chye on whether there will be a debate on the PAC report yesterday. The AG report was tabled to the PAC in March this year.

Earlier yesterday, the 106-page PAC report was tabled in Parliament. The bipartisan parliamentary committee has given several recommendations to improve on 1MDB’s corporate governance.

The PAC also called on the authorities to investigate former 1MDB chief executive officer Datuk Shahrol Azral Ibrahim Halmi and other management for lapses at the fund.

Speaking to reporters at the Parliament lobby later, Pandikar Amin said MPs can now bring up the PAC report on 1MDB in future parliamentary sittings, following the tabling of the report yesterday.

“The PAC has done its job. Now it’s up to Dewan Rakyat to proceed.

“It is really up to the MPs. If they find that the report indicates someone had committed a crime, then the necessary actions should be taken,” he added.
