KUALA LUMPUR (May 13): Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem has appointed nine full ministers, including three deputy chief ministers, to help him run the state, according to a Bernama report.

"We have increased the state constituencies from 72 to 82 and this certainly justifies the need to have the numbers," he was quoted as telling a packed media conference at the state legislative assembly building here to announce their names and respective portfolios.

The nine had earlier attended a swearing-in ceremony before Sarawak Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud.

The three deputy chief ministers (DCMs) are Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, who is also appointed as State Agriculture Modernisation and Rural Economy Minister, Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing, also appointed as State Infrastructure Development and Transportation Minister, and Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg, who will hold two portfolios, as Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister as well as Housing and Urbanisation Minister.

Douglas Uggah is also no longer the minister of plantation industries and commodities. He is understood to have resigned from the position on Monday, May 9.

Nancy Shukri, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, is currently the acting minister.
