KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 19): Lawyers representing Nur Anis Jamaluddin and Ikwan Hafiz Jamaluddin, the children of the late Rompin member of parliament Tan Sri Jamaluddin Jarjis, have told the High Court that they will apply to strike out the suit by their grandmother Aminah Abdullah, who is seeking a portion of the RM21 million kept by the deceased in various banks.

This was revealed to High Court deputy registrar Norafidah Idris during case management of the matter today.

The court was asked to consider hearing the striking out application first, before the defendants file their defences. However, the court directed the defendants to file their respective defences concurrently, or before their striking out applications.

Norafidah fixed Sept 17 as the next case management date.

This was revealed by Aminah's lawyer, Wan Zafran Pawancheek. Damian Kiethan Anthony Jeyakumar appeared for Nur Anis and Noor Nasyrah Samir for Ikhwan Hafiz.

On Tuesday, theedgemarkets.com reported Aminah, 86, through her lawyers filed the latest suit on May 31 seeking a portion of the RM21.351 million or RM2.29 million from her two grandchildren who were appointed joint administrators of their late father's estate following the letters of administration issued by the High Court (Civil) on July 6, 2017.

The bank accounts held by Jamaluddin as stipulated in the statement of claim are also in the United Kingdom and the United States as well as in local banks here.

Jamaluddin, a close confidant of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, passed away following a helicopter crash in April 2015, without leaving any will.

As stated in the statement of claim, Jamaluddin's Employees Provident Fund (EPF) savings of RM875,298 was with Aminah and she was willing to release part of the amount to give to her grandchildren and their mother according to faraid (Islamic law of inheritance).

On Friday, the High Court ruled that the company shares of Rantai Wawasan Sdn Bhd was part of Jamaluddin's estate. However, shares of two other companies namely Alpine Motion Sdn Bhd and Ivory Insights Sdn Bhd were not.

Aminah had laid her claim on shares of the three companies, being Jamaluddin's biological mother. She had also filed an application for her son's assets to be divided according to the faraid system, of which she is entitled to one-sixth of the estate.

Rantai Wawasan according to her statement of claim was said to be worth in excess of RM1 billion.

The company is the holding company which owns, among others, NUR Power, an independent power utility in Kulim, Kedah, which was acquired in 2012.
