KUALA LUMPUR (April 12): The Malaysian Takaful Association (MTA) said that the country’s takaful players are ready to assist the government’s plan to introduce the 'Insurans Rahmah' or Rahmah Insurance initiative.

“If we can realise (the Rahmah Insurance), it will be meaningful,” MTA chief executive officer Mohd Radzuan Mohamed told reporters after a presentation on the performance of the country's takaful industry last year.

On March 20, the Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub announced the Rahmah Insurance initiative to provide more affordable insurance protection for the public.

“Following the announcement, we had a series of engagements with the ministry to impart our knowledge as well as to share our offering to ministry, to assist the ministry with a sustainable Rahmah Takaful programme for the targeted markets,” he said.

Among the targeted segments are the bottom 40% (B40) and the middle 40% (M40) income groups, gig workers as well as the service sector.

“This is where the ministry is actually looking at — how we (takaful players) can support them (the targeted segments) if they are involved in unfortunate incidents like an accident,” he added.
