KUALA LUMPUR (April 6): Genting Malaysia Bhd’s (GenM) independent non-executive director Datuk Lee Bee Phang has been appointed as a member of the Election Commission of Malaysia (SPR), the company said.

Lee, 61, resigned from GenM’s board with immediate effect on April 6, the company said in its filing. According to her appointment letter, she is not allowed to engage in any position or paid work outside of her position as a member of SPR, the filing added.

“Datuk Dr Lee Bee Phang has on April 6 received a letter from Chief Secretary to the Government of Malaysia, Prime Minister's Department in relation to her appointment as a member of the Election Commission of Malaysia (Suruhanjaya Pilihan Raya Malaysia) with effect from March 22, 2023, as endorsed by His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia,” said GenM.

Accordingly, voting for the re-election of Lee as a director of the company has been withdrawn and shall not be put forward at the company’s 43rd annual general meeting at the end of May.

GenM shares fell 0.38% or one sen to RM2.64 per piece, giving the company a market capitalisation of RM15.68 billion.
