KUALA LUMPUR (March 30):  Offshore support vessel provider Icon Offshore Bhd has appointed Aliff Omar Mohamad Omar as an alternate director of the group.

Aliff, 37, will serve as alternate director to non-independent non-executive director Syed Yasir Arafat Syed Abd Kadir with effect from Thursday (March 30), the group said in its bourse filing.
 
Aliff is the senior director of investment at Ekuiti Nasional Bhd (Ekuinas), a private equity fund manager company that promotes equitable and sustainable Bumiputera wealth creation and economic participation. He joined Ekuinas as a director of investment in July 2017.

Ekuinas holds an indirect stake of 57.41% through Hallmark Odyssey Sdn Bhd in Icon Offshore.

Icon Offshore said that prior to joining Ekuinas, Aliff was a director of investment banking at UBS AG and has led a number of mergers and acquisitions (M&A) and capital market transactions in Malaysia and Southeast Asia.

Before UBS AG, he was in the regional merger and acquistion team of CIMB Investment Bank and the Investment Banking Division of Maybank Investment Bank.

Aliff holds a masters in finance degree from the University of Cambridge, and a first degree in Industrial Engineering & Management Sciences and Economics from Northwestern University in the US.

Icon Offshore's share price closed 0.5 sen or 5.56% higher at 9.5 sen on Thursday, giving the group a market capitalisation of RM257.12 million.
