KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 13): Inari Amertron Bhd, the country’s largest outsourced semiconductor assembly and test firm, has appointed Datuk Mohamad Azmi Ali as its independent director, as well as the chairman of its audit committee, effective Friday (Jan 13).

According to Inari's filing with Bursa Malaysia, the 65-year-old has a vast accounting background, including being the deputy accountant general of Malaysia from 2015 to 2017 and chief accountant of the Ministry of Education from 2008 to 2011.

Mohamad Azmi is currently an audit committee member of the Technology Depository Agency Bhd, an entity established under the prerogative of Ministry of Finance; the Malaysia Productivity Corp, a joint project between the United Nations Special Fund and the federal government; and Yayasan Guru Tun Hussein Onn, a statutory body under the Ministry of Education.

He is also the current registrar of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants since his appointment in December 2020.

Besides Inari, Mohamad Azmi also holds directorship in two other public-listed companies, namely SYF Resources Bhd and Insas Bhd.

Notably, Insas — a Main Market-listed diversified group that is controlled by low-profile businessman Datuk Seri Thong Kok Khee — is the single largest shareholder of Inari with a 12.12% stake.

Insas is in the midst of injecting its stockbroking arm M&A Securities Sdn Bhd into SYF Resources for RM222 million via a reverse takeover deal.

On Friday, Inari closed three sen lower at RM2.65, bringing it a market capitalisation of RM9.89 billion.
