KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 29): Former Umno lawmaker Datuk Seri Hasan Arifin is resigning from his position as non-executive chairman of Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB).

The 69-year-old, who was TNB chairman from Oct 1, 2021, will resign with effect from Jan 1, 2023, according to the group's filing with Bursa Malaysia.

“He shall also relinquish his chairmanships or directorships in the respective subsidiaries within the TNB group of companies,” said TNB. “The board of directors of TNB would like to express its appreciation to Datuk Seri Hasan Arifin for his contribution to the company.”

Hasan was a two-term member of parliament for Rompin, but lost in the 15th general election by a slim majority of 1,438 votes to Datuk Abdul Khalib Abdullah from Bersatu.  He had served as the chairman of Parliament's Public Accounts Committee.

The share price of TNB closed 1.72% or 16 sen higher to RM9.46 on Thursday (Dec 29), valuing the group at RM54.42 billion.
