PUTRAJAYA (Dec 19): The Court of Appeal on Monday (Dec 19) fixed June 22 and 23 next year for the hearing of Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor's appeal to set aside her solar hybrid graft conviction and sentence.

On those two days, the appellate court will also hear her appeal over her failure to recuse High Court judge Mohamed Zaini Mazlan from presiding in her trial and continue to deliver his verdict.

The dates were fixed following case management on Monday.

Meanwhile, it is understood that Rosmah’s lawyers, led by Datuk Akberdin Abdul Kader and Datuk Jagjit Singh, will also write in to fix July 12 to 14 as further additional dates for the hearing.

However, the additional dates are subject to approval by the Court of Appeal, which has fixed Feb 3 next year as case management on whether to grant the extra dates.

The matter was confirmed by deputy public prosecutor Poh Yin Tinn, who attended the case management.

Poh also revealed that the defence and prosecution are required to file their written submissions by May 25, and should there be any reply, it should be filed by June 7.

On Sept 1, Rosmah, 71, the wife of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, was found guilty on all three counts of graft in relation to the solar hybrid graft case involving 364 rural schools in Sarawak.

She was found guilty by Zaini of soliciting RM187.5 million from Jepak Holdings Sdn Bhd's former managing director Saidi Abang Samsudin for being awarded the RM1.25 billion project by the Ministry of Education between April and August 2016.

She was also found guilty of receiving RM5 million and RM1.5 million from Saidi at her private residence in Jalan Langgak Duta and then at the prime minister's official residence in Seri Perdana between Dec 20, 2016 and Sept 7, 2017.

All three charges were framed under Section 16(a)(A) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act.

For this, Zaini sentenced Rosmah to 10 years' jail and a whopping fine of RM970 million.

Rosmah has filed some 127 grounds in her appeal against the conviction and sentence.

In finding her guilty and sentencing her, Zaini ruled that Rosmah’s defence had failed to create doubts to her three charges, and warned that if corruption is not controlled, it would reach all levels of society.
