SINGAPORE (June 30): Shares of Jardine Cycle & Carriage, which owns Jakarta-listed automotive distributor Astra International, continue to rise, adding another 2.3% on Thursday morning to hit $36.33.

Jardine C&C, a member of the Jardine Matheson Group, has gained more than 11% in the past three sessions to its highest since early May, after drifting along for about a month at around its lowest level this year. The stock prompted the Singapore Exchange to issue the company with an unusual activity query on Wednesday at 3.44pm.

In its aftermarket response, Jardine C&C said the company wasn’t aware of any information not previously announced concerning it or its subsidiaries or associated companies which might explain the unusual trading activity. The company also confirmed it is acting in compliance with SGX trading rules.

To be sure, Jardine Matheson and Jardine Strategic have also performed well in the last few sessions. The price moves are likely due to volatility associated with Britain’s decision to leave the European Union, since Jardine companies are also listed in London.

Indonesian lawmakers on Tuesday also finally passed a new tax amnesty Bill aimed at encouraging wealthy citizens with billions of dollars in assets abroad to come clean with the taxman. The new law will also grant reprieve for businesses in the form of a lower tax rate for small- and medium-sized enterprises.
