The logistics industry is the backbone of international trade and commerce. Boasting a global value of US$8.6 trillion — according to market and consumer data provider Statista — the industry serves as an essential lifeline for trade and other entrepreneurial activities. Asia-Pacific remains one of the leading logistics markets in the world, says the data provider.

In Malaysia, the freight and logistics market is expected to register a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of more than 4% over the next five years, says market research company Mordor Intelligence. With the expansion of the industry along with exponential growth opportunities, global logistics service provider J&T Express is looking to increase its presence in Malaysia and the region.

Investing in growth

Since it was established in 2015, J&T Express has grown by leaps and bounds into one of the largest and most established logistics companies in the region. With leading express delivery businesses in Southeast Asia and China, its network now spans 12 countries, including Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand,

Vietnam, Cambodia, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Mexico, and Brazil. It currently serves more than two billion people worldwide.

Although J&T Express is a relatively young company, a large part of its success is due to its “customer-oriented and efficiency-based” mission. The company remains committed to providing integrated logistics solutions through its intelligent infrastructure and digital logistics network — an integral part of its strategy to connect the world with greater efficiency by bringing logistical benefits to all.

To further fuel its growth and achieve its ambitions in Malaysia and across the region, J&T Express has invested RM600 million in an integrated logistics centre in Selangor. The 30-acre centre in Bandar Rimbayu, Selangor, is designed for express distribution, transport, logistics and warehousing.

According to the company, it is committed to strengthening its leadership position in Southeast Asia and has always been optimistic about Malaysia’s development prospects.

Taking into consideration the continued growth of the regional market and strong demand for both cross-border logistics and domestic warehousing, J&T says now is the opportune time to ramp up its infrastructure in Malaysia and deploy advanced technology.

Charles Hou, group vice-president of J&T Express, said, “As a global logistics service provider, J&T Express is committed to providing customers with more efficient and convenient services.”

“It remains our emphasis to strengthen our leadership position in Southeast Asia through expanding our presence in existing markets. The addition of another facility, and the application of our advanced technology enables us to better tap on our existing networks. This will enhance our operational advantage to better meet the growing demands of the burgeoning e-commerce industry in Southeast Asia.”

Driving development

J&T Express’ new integrated logistics centre is set to be the largest of its kind for the company. Located at the gateway to Bandar Rimbayu and surrounded by four thriving townships, it represents the company’s continued commitment to the Malaysian and Southeast Asian markets.

“Rimbayu is the future golden triangle of Selangor, we believe in the future development potential of this area.” said J&T Express Malaysia chief executive officer, Roy Zeng. “This year marks the fifth year since J&T Express commenced operations in Malaysia. With diversified expansion and the strong momentum thanks to the continuous growth of the regional market, we have decided to invest RM 600 million to purchase a parcel of land and build a logistics centre in Malaysia. In doing this, we hope to drive the development of the local economy, provide jobs for the community, and play an active role in the development of the local logistics industry and the long-term development of the community.”

The new centre will be launched in 4Q2024.

Strengthening its position

As most of its operations are in Southeast Asia, J&T Express has benefited from the rapid growth of the express delivery service market here. Like many other logistics players, the disruptions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic also forced the company to rise to the challenge of bridging the needs of society and customers through efficient transport and warehousing services.

J&T Express’ success and continued growth are rooted in its commitment to incorporate advanced technology into its business ecosystem. The company is backed by a strong network of supportive partners, clients, stakeholders, investors and employees.

J&T’s new integrated logistics facility in Rimbayu will undoubtedly contribute to the economic development of the nation and region. The investment is proof of J&T Express’ continued commitment in providing customers as well as thriving online businesses across the region with more efficient and convenient services, which the brand is renowned for.
