KUALA LUMPUR (March 2): Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, whose graft and money laundering trial has been deferred to tomorrow, says his case will continue as usual, adding that he does not want it to be dismissed.

In a brief statement today, Zahid said: "My case will continue as usual (tomorrow). It would not be dropped like other cases prior to this. Insya'allah (God-willing), I would let the court to clear me of this case without seeking for the case to be dropped."

"I want the court to make a decision despite (I believe) this case being a political and selective prosecution," he added.

The postponement comes as Zahid has a scheduled appointment today with newly minted Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to discuss on forming the Cabinet line-up.

Zahid's lawyers informed High Court judge Collin Lawrence Sequerah this morning and the judge said the trial will resume tomorrow.

Yesterday, Muhyiddin took his oath as the eighth Prime Minister, replacing Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Muhyiddin's coalition comprises Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, where he is president, along with Umno, PAS, MCA, MIC and support from Gabungan Parti Sarawak.

As soon as court is adjourned, Zahid is seen hurriedly leaving the courtroom.

Zahid, who is former deputy prime minister, was represented by Hisyam Teh Poh Teik and Datuk Ahmad Zaidi Zainal, while Deputy Public Prosecutor Datuk Raja Rozela Raja Toran led the prosecution.

The 67-year-old Zahid is facing trial for 47 charges that includes 12 for criminal breach of trust, eight for corruption and 27 for money laundering involving millions of ringgit of funds belonging to Yayasan Akalbudi.
