(April 8): Youth group Solidariti Anak Muda Malaysia (SAMM) wants police to investigate former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad under the Sedition Act and is lodging police reports nationwide.

Its coordinator Badrul Hisham Shahrin said its reports centred on Dr Mahathir’s remarks about the murder of Altantuya Shaariibuu.

"Yesterday, we filed a report in Rembau and this morning in Kuantan and Hulu Selangor.

"Later today, reports will be filed in Penang and Malacca," he was quoted as saying by news portal Malaysiakini.

Badrul told the portal that he was hauled up under the Sedition Act for a book he authored on the Mongolian national’s murder titled "Di Sebalik misteri pembunuhan Altantuya" (Behind the mystery of Altantuya's murder).

He added that if he had to face action over the work, the country’s longest-serving prime minister should also face action for his comments on the matter.

In his blog last week, Dr Mahathir said it was not fair for former corporal Sirul Azhar Umar and ex-chief inspector Azilah Hadri, who were convicted of the murder of Altantuya, to be given capital punishment, as they were carrying out orders.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said Dr Mahathir would not be investigated under the Sedition Act over his remarks. – The Malaysian Insider
