KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 6): The Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) Malaysia hopes there will be allocation under Budget 2020 for incentives to encourage the construction industry to adopt Building Information Modelling (BIM).

At a media briefing on a progress update of the Construction Industry Transformation Programme (CITP) 2016–2020, Works Minister Baru Bian said he wishes the construction industry could adopt and practise the BIM system as it could simplify and increase efficiency for building design and construction.

"Hence, [CIDB committee members] have suggested that the Ministry of Finance allocate RM15 million at the upcoming budget (as incentives)," he said.

CIDB now subsidises training for contractors and consultants on the adoption of BIM system in their projects.

"In line with the Works Ministry's goal towards digitalising the construction industry, we expect smart construction to play a significant role in the industry, as we move towards 2020 and beyond," he added. — EdgeProp.my
