Tepak Tari

As part of the KL International Dance Festival, Tepak Tari brings together two programmes of short works by 12 exciting choreographers featuring Malaysian dancers and dance companies. This vast body of work explores the flow of modernity in both traditional and modern genres, which create a diverse perspective in the Malaysian dance scene. The choreographers collaborating in this performance include Suhaili Micheline and Faillul Adam, Wong Kit Yaw, Divya Nair and Amanda Brown. Path of Discovery

Virtuoso pianist Kimball Gallagher teams up with Malaysian soprano Yling Chaing for a one off “salad de fiesta” of fun genres and acts spanning music, song and dance. Kimball Gallagher is fresh off his International 88 Concert Tour in April which took him to 30 countries, seven continents and 40,000 listeners globally. The performance will feature dance improvisations, operatic renditions together with Ramli Ibrahim and Weijun. Path of Discovery will be held at Auditorium DBKL, Menara DBKL 1, Jalan Raja Laut, Kuala Lumpur on Sunday at 8.30pm. For tickets call (03) 7610 0682.

Cirque de la Symphonie

Don’t miss out on this magical fusion of circus and classical music at the Dewan Filharmonik Petronas (DFP) this weekend. A range of aerial flyers, acrobats, dancers, jugglers, balancers and contortionists will take the stage at the DFP, performing some jaw-dropping feats with classical music by the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra as the soundtrack. The performance will be conducted by Fabio Mechetti and feature performances from Cirque de la Symphonie. London Calling

Featuring Joanna Tan, London Calling is about the realisation of her two dreams — entering university and singing in a city where many stars are born. Enjoy a range of timeless hits including Disney songs, Michael Buble, the Beatles and songs from musicals like Wicked and Wizard of Oz. Kathryn Farmer and Michael Veerapen Trio

As part of the KL International Arts Festival/DiverseCity 2015, No Black Tie brings to you jazz vocalist Kathryn Farmer and jazz virtuoso Michael Veerapen. As an accomplished jazz vocalist, Kathryn has wooed crowds in New York, Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Possessing a five-octave range, expect her to be wowing crowds this weekend. Michael Veerapen needs no introduction in the Malaysian jazz scene, having enjoyed an illustrious career consisting of memorable jazz performances and improvisations. 2 art exhibitions to visit

100 Days of Beastiarium — Creatures from Fiction and Reality

This solo exhibition features work by Russian artist Elena Kravchenko, who created one piece of artwork per day over the period of 100 days. It explores the absolute good and absolute evil which are result of the lack of information and blind faith in illusions. The gallery is currently exhibiting around 60 “beasts” that are created in different techniques, using various media. Each piece represents a tale, myth or legend that are a mix of good and evil within and on the outside. The exhibition is held at Kitch-N-ART Gallery, Lot 56, Art Row, Level G2, Publika, Kuala Lumpur and will be running until Sept 30. Gallery hours are 11am to 8pm (Tuesday to Saturday). Picturing the Nation

Ilham Gallery, Kuala Lumpur’s newest pubic art gallery, pays tribute to the late royal portrait painter Datuk Hoessein Enas. His work was key in defining art during the post-independent years and became synonymous to the birth of Malaysia as a multicultural nation. The works of four contemporary artists are featured in Picturing the Nation — Ahmad Zakii Anwar, Dain Iskandar Said, Vincent Leong and Yee I-Lann. The exhibition is curated by creative art director Valentine Willie. Ilham Gallery is located at Ilham Tower, Jalan Binjai, Kuala Lumpur.
