The Bazaar of Bad Dreams by Stephen King

Published on Nov 3, Stephen King’s sixth collection of short stories features a compilation of tales that were previously seen in other magazines and newspapers. These 20 horror stories are gleefully filled with fright and gore that King is famous for. Critics have called The Bazaar of Bad Dreams a philosophical book with stories that make us ponder about life and death instead of the usual fanfare of ghosts and monsters. Available at Kinokuniya, Suria KLCC at RM109.90.

Thomas Jefferson and the Tripoli Pirates by Brian Kilmeade

Not in the mood for fiction? Pick this up instead — it’s a non-fiction account of how Thomas Jefferson faced a crisis that took place in the 1800s. It’s a little-known story of how a newly independent nation was challenged by four Muslim powers: Tripoli, Tunis, Algiers and Morocco. Jefferson found it impossible to negotiate with people who believed their religion justified the plunder and enslavement of non-Muslims, and would show no mercy, extorting money from Western powers. Jefferson then sent US Navy warships to Tripoli, marking the start of the Barbary Wars. Thomas Jefferson and the Tripoli Pirates is available at Kinokuniya and retails at RM130.60.

The Sandman: Overture by Neil Gaiman

Twenty-five years since The Sandman first changed the landscape of modern comics, Neil Gaiman’s legendary series is back in a deluxe hardcover edition. From the birth of a galaxy to the moment that Morpheus is captured, The Sandman: Overture will feature cameo appearances by fan-favourite characters such as The Corinthian, Merv Pumpkinhead and, of course, the Dream King’s siblings: Death, Desire, Despair, Delirium, Destruction and Destiny.
