Ravel Concerto for the Left Hand

The innovative Concerto for the Left Hand by Ravel was commissioned by a pianist who lost his right arm during World War I. The Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra and Malaysian Philharmonic Youth Orchestra will be led by conductor Naohisa Furusawa with P’ng Tean Hwa on the piano. The concert starts at 8.30pm today and tomorrow. Besides Ravel’s Piano Concerto for the Left Hand, it will also feature Mussorgsky’s Night on a Bald Mountain, and Prokofiev’s Symphony No 5. Magical Movie Moments II

The KLPAC Orchestra presents its second instalment of Magical Movie Moments under the leadership of music director and resident conductor Lee Kok Leong. Listen to the tunes from your favourite blockbusters, animation films, Spaghetti Westerns, musical films or even all-time classics. Look forward to music from Star Wars, The Avengers, Lion King, Aladdin, How to Train your Dragon, and much more. Five soloists include singers Tria Aziz and Iz Sulaini, vocalist Evon Ng, violinist Li Xingqiao and cellist Tan Fang Hau. Joel Chan Live in Concert

Fans of Joel Chan will be excited for his live concert on Sunday at 8.30pm. Bringing his incredible vocal ability, Chan is known for his range of on-screen works and had gone on to win the Best Supporting Actor for his role in The Unholy Alliance. Art Expo Malaysia 2019

The most prestigious art exhibition is back with its 13th edition. Art Expo Malaysia (AEM) presents collections from 60 prominent galleries from 15 countries. With over 1,500 art pieces, AEM celebrates incredible budding artists. This international fair has truly grown to become one of the most sought-after art events of the year. Cold-Process Soap-Making Workshop

Try your hand at making soap from scratch at this fun-filled workshop. Learn the basics of saponification, safety in handling lye, the use of natural colours in soap, how to use a soap calculator, different types of oils and their purposes, and much more. Whether you’re a novice or expert, you will learn a lot at this workshop. At the end you will go home with a cold-process soap loaf, a beginner’s guide, a silicone mould, goggles and a mask to use at home. Participants are requested to wear long sleeves or to cover their arms and wear closed-toe shoes. The workshop, to be held this Sunday at 10am to noon, costs RM190. Batik Funwalk 2019

An exciting Batik Funwalk for all ages will be  organised by Yayasan Budi Penyayang Malaysia this Sunday. The morning walk is full of family fun for a worthy cause. The 3.8km event is to promote batik as our national heritage as well as encourage fitness. There will also be entertainment, food trucks, fitness challenges, cultural performances, batik and craft booths, clowns and magicians. Dhanvantrim Nruthyam

Cancer survivor Navi Indran Pillai graces the stage with her performance Dhanvantrim Nruthyam #KissedbyCancer. Diagnosed with breast cancer at a young age of 22, Pillai’s dreams of dancing came to a halt. She is now back on stage to raise funds for her therapies. She performs five dances in conjunction with Breast Cancer Awareness Month, tomorrow at 6pm at the Temple of Fine Arts KL,116, Jalan Berhala, Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur. Steve Hughes
