KUALA LUMPUR (April 28): PKR president Datuk Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail was shocked and saddened by news that the party's candidate Tian Chua's was disqualified for the Batu Parliamentary seat on grounds that he had been fined RM2,000 by the Shah Alam court.

Speaking to reporters after her own nomination was accepted at Dewan Pandan Indah MPAJ today, Wan Azizah said Tian Chua had been cleared by the party's nomination committee.

"I feel very sad we have lost this chance in Batu," said Wan Azizah.

Tian Chua , a PKR vice-president, had his nomination rejected by Election Commission returning officer Anwar Mohd Zain, the Sun Daily reported.

Tian Chua had held the seat for two terms since 2008.

The contest for Batu will be a four-cornered fight between Dominic Lau of Barisan Nasional, Al Azhar Yahya from PAS and two independent candidates, V M Panjamothy, 62, and P Prabakaran, 22.

Asked if trouble is brewing in Sg Siput for PKR with PSM going ahead to nominate Dr Michael Jeyakumar, Wan Azizah said it wasn't that PKR dropped him — Jeyakumar previously contested and won the seat on PKR's ticket — but rather PSM wanted to stand in the seat on its own, so PKR has to respect that decision.
