KUALA LUMPUR (July 27): Information and communications technology distributor VSTECS Bhd (formerly known as ECS ICT Bhd) said its wholly owned VSTECS Pericomp Sdn Bhd has been appointed by Alibaba Cloud as the latter's distributor to provide high performance public cloud services in Malaysia.
VSTECS said in a statement it aims to leverage on the company's leading market position and extensive network of enterprise partners to accelerate cloud adoption in key industries across both the public and private sectors.
"Cloud adoption has become an essential part of the new agile business world. Since opening its data centres in Malaysia in 2017 and 2018, Alibaba Cloud has been providing Malaysian enterprises a local choice to build their businesses and run their applications on an advanced, reliable and secure cloud platform.
"With our channel reach, we are confident this partnership will yield positive results for both parties moving forward," said VSTECS Bhd chief executive officer Soong Jan Hsung in a statement.
Alibaba Cloud is the digital technology and intelligence backbone of Alibaba Group, VSTECS said, and the first global cloud player to have a direct presence in Malaysia with its two data centres and first cloud-based anti-Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) scrubbing centre established locally.

Building up a comprehensive network of ecosystem partners has been one of our main focuses in this region," said Alibaba Cloud Intelligence's general manager for Malaysia Jordy Cao.
By leveraging VSTECS' broad network and local resources, Cao believes the partnership will further upscale the local cloud computing market and better support the local businesses to embrace the digital economy.
VSTECS shares closed four sen or 1.45% lower at RM2.72 today, giving the company a market capitalisation of RM490 million.
