KUALA LUMPUR (June 16): Vsolar Group Bhd is looking into developing a large-scale solar facility under the Energy Commission’s LSS@MenTARI programme.

In a statement today, the group said it plans to bid for a quota under the programme, with the support of Mattan Engineering Sdn Bhd as the engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning (EPCC) partner to develop the project.

Vsolar said Mattan has the expertise and a tremendous track record of managing and integrating multi-disciplined renewable energy projects in Malaysia.

As an EPCC contractor, Mattan has completed a variety of turnkey projects in recent times, it said.

“In November 2017, Mattan was appointed the turnkey EPCC contractor of a large-scale solar facility generating up to 50 megawatts (MW) in Rembau, Negeri Sembilan, which as of to date, is ranked as one of the largest solar farm in Malaysia,” Vsolar added.

The group noted that the Energy Commission has set the bidding process to be closed on Sept 2 to ensure any successful bidder can launch its solar facility by the first quarter of 2021.

On May 28, Energy and Natural Resources Minister Datuk Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah announced that the commission would open a competitive bidding process for the LSS@MenTARI programme starting May 31.

Under the programme, some 1,000 MW of solar quota will be offered through the bidding process, which is open to fully-owned local companies or with at least 75% local shareholding for companies listed on Bursa Malaysia.

The ministry has set the maximum capacity at 50MW per participant to encourage more locally-owned enterprises to be involved in the renewable energy sector, Vsolar said.
