KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 26): Berjaya Corp Bhd founder and non-executive chairman Tan Sri Vincent Tan Chee Yioun will be part of an executive committee (exco) which will oversee Bosnia and Herzegovina-based football club FK Sarajevo, after the club announced the departure of its former director Sabrina Buljubasic with immediate effect over the weekend, according to Berjaya Corp chief executive officer Abdul Jalil Abdul Rasheed.

Tan and Ismir Mirvic are co-owners of FK Sarajevo with 60% and 30% stakes respectively, according to online reports.

"Till new CEO is found, an exco will oversee (the) ops,” Abdul Jalil said in an update via Twitter on Monday (Oct 25).

In a Sunday (Oct 24) Twitter post, Abdul Jalil said: "The club will be overseen by (its) exco, led by investors Ismir Mirvic and Vincent Tan (via me (Abdul Jalil) ) until (a) permanent replacement is found.”

"I thank Sabrina for her contribution to the club over (the) past five seasons, during which the club won back-to-back league titles,” Abdul Jalil said.

Tan also owns the UK’s Cardiff City Football Club, which confirmed on Saturday (Oct 23) that its first-team manager Mick McCarthy and assistant manager Terry Connor had left the club by mutual agreement and with immediate effect.

In a Saturday Twitter post, Abdul Jalil said Steve Morison and Tom Ramasut will take over Cardiff City Football Club’s first-team duties immediately on an interim basis.

On Saturday, Cardiff City Football Club said in a statement that Morison and Ramasut will oversee first-team duties in the interim, as the board of directors of the club begin the process of appointing a permanent replacement for McCarthy and Connor.

"We would like to thank Mick and Terry for their efforts during their time with the Bluebirds and wish them all the best for the future,” said Cardiff City Football Club, which is also known as the Bluebirds.

McCarthy's exit from Cardiff City Football Club has been widely reported in the UK.

It was reported that McCarthy's spell as Cardiff City Football Club manager came to an end, following the 2-0 home defeat by Middlesbrough, their eighth consecutive loss and the worst run in Cardiff City Football Club’s history.

According to news reports, McCarthy had been in charge at the Cardiff City Stadium since January 2021 and despite a promising start, which saw an 11-game unbeaten run, the Bluebirds missed out on last season’s English Football League Championship play-offs.

“Cardiff (City Football Club) has not won since September (2021) and with fan discontent increasing, coupled with a record sixth successive home defeat, McCarthy and the club parted company by "mutual agreement and with immediate effect”.

"Cardiff City (Football Club) now has a crucial decision to make, given the club is only one place and two points above the Championship relegation zone,” BBC reported on Sunday.

This story has been corrected to say that Tan will be overseeing FK Sarajevo, and not as previously reported. The error is regretted.
