LANGKAWI (April 28): Disgruntled for not being fielded, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) member Mohamad Ratu Mansor will stand as an independent against three others in the Kuah state seat.

“I am standing in protest against PPBM despite being a life member in the party. I am unhappy that the party did not pick me to be a candidate. I noticed that there are many issues in Langkawi but PPBM does not do anything and has become like Umno,” the businessman told reporters after filing his nomination papers this morning.

Mohamad Ratu, 42, who chose the ‘tree’ logo will be vying for the seat with PPBM’s Mohd Firdaus Ahmad who will contest under the PKR logo, Barisan Nasional’s Nor Saidi Nanyan and PAS’ Mazlan Ahmad.

In the 2013 general election, Nor Saidi polled 10,263 votes, beating PKR’s Ahmad Kasim (3,892 votes) and independent Zaflee Pakwanteh (117 votes).

“I am from Pulau Tuba where there are 5,000 Bersatu members. I feel they will support me in the election,” he said.

The BN stronghold seat was previously held for two terms by Langkawi Parliamentary incumbent Datuk Nawawi Ahmad.
