(March 2): At 8.25pm, Malaysiakini has reported that Barisan Nasional has won the Semenyih by-election.

Malaysiakini is making the call based on the assumption that voter turnout was 73 percent. At 8.20pm, the Election Commission confirmed that voter turnout was 73.3 percent.

The news portal estimated that BN's share of the vote is 49.98 percent, followed by Harapan 45.97 percent, PSM (2.22 percent) and Kuan Chee Heng (1.82 percent).

Malaysiakini said with just one polling station yet to confirm the results, Bandar Tasik Kesuma, which has BN leading, the Opposition coalition is poised to recapture the seat.

At 8.52pm, Zakaria Hanafi of Barisan Nasional had 18,864 votes while Muhammad Aiman Zainali of Pakatan Harapan had 17,350 votes. Independent Kuan Chee Heng had 688 votes while Nik Aziz Afiq Abdul of Parti  Sosialis Malaysia had 839 votes.
