KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 3): Unisem (M) Bhd's net profit for the third quarter ended Sept 30, 2016 (3QFY16) dipped slightly to RM38.63 million from RM40.2 million a year earlier.

Revenue for the quarter came in lower at RM321.95 million compared to RM329.61 million a year earlier.

Earnings per share for 3QFY16 stood at 5.26 sen versus 5.5 sen previously.

Unisem declared an interim dividend of 7% or 3.5 sen per share, payable on Jan 6, 2017.

For the nine months ended Sept 30 (9MFY16), Unisem posted a net profit of RM110.95 million or 15.12 sen per share versus RM95.12 million or 13.66 sen per share a year earlier, on the back of revenue RM960.65 million versus RM908.46 million.

Reviewing its performance, Unisem said the increase in 9MFY16 revenue was mainly attributable to improved average selling prices arising from the appreciation of US$/RM and US$/RMB exchange rates, as compared to the prevailing rates in the corresponding period a year ago.

It said the improvement in 9MFY16 net profit was mainly due to higher foreign exchange gain and lower interest expense as compared to the corresponding period a year ago.

On its prospects, Unisem said it expects the performance of the group to remain satisfactory till the end of the financial year.

At the noon market break, Unisem shares fell 4 sen or 1.6% to RM2.46, for a market capitalisation of RM1.8 billion.
