KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 4): Unisem (M) Bhd said today that it has paused operations at its plant in Chengdu, China, under the directive of local authorities as part of measures to contain the Wuhan virus outbreak.

The operation — under its unit Unisem Chengdu Co Ltd — was halted from last Sunday (Feb 2) and will last until Feb 9, it said in a filing to Bursa Malaysia.

Unisem Chengdu hires some 2,000 employees for the operation of one packaging and testing facility, as well as one of its two wafer bumping facilities, according to Unisem's latest annual report.

The group's other operations are located in Ipoh and in Batam, Indonesia.

Unisem shares slid 4 sen or 1.8% to close at RM2.18, giving the group a market capitalisation of RM1.6 billion.
