KUALA LUMPUR: Unisem (M) Bhd said yesterday it had paused operations of its plant in Chengdu, China under the directive of local authorities as part of the measures to contain the Wuhan virus outbreak.

The operation — under its unit Unisem Chengdu Co Ltd — was halted from Sunday and will last until Feb 9, it said in a filing with Bursa Malaysia.

Unisem Chengdu hires some 2,000 employees for the operation of one packaging and testing facility, as well as one of its two wafer -bumping facilities, according to Unisem’s latest annual report.

The group’s other operations are located in Ipoh and in Batam, Indonesia.

Unisem shares slid four sen or 1.8% to RM2.18 yesterday, giving it a market capitalisation of RM1.6 billion.
