KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 29): UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd said it would repair or replace power window master switches in Toyota cars here.

This follows a global recall of Toyota vehicles last week by Japan-based Toyota Motor Corp due to the power window master switch issue.

In Malaysia, UMW Toyota, the exclusive distributor of Toyota and Lexus models here, said it received confirmation from Toyota Motor on the 66,830 units of Toyota Vios, Toyota Corolla Altis, Toyota Camry, Toyota Yaris and Toyota RAV4 affected by the problem.

UMW Toyota said these vehicles were manufactured between September 2005 and December 2010.

"In the interest of ensuring customers' confidence and peace of mind, Toyota is currently preparing the necessary remedial parts; and UMW Toyota Motor will contact all affected customers to carry out the necessary corrective measures and if [the vehicle] is equipped with an affected power window master switch, the affected item will be applied with specialised grease.

"If the switch is demonstrating signs of malfunction, the switch board will be replaced at no charge to the owner," said UMW Toyota, a unit of UMW Holdings Bhd.

UMW Toyota is a joint venture comprising UMW Corp Sdn Bhd, Toyota Motor and Toyota Tsusho Corp.

At Bursa Malaysia, UMW Holdings shares fell one sen or 0.1% at 11.48am to RM8.08 for a market capitalisation of RM9.37 billion. The stock saw 134,600 shares transacted.
