KUALA LUMPUR (June 4): UMW Holdings Bhd has appointed Azmin Che Yusoff as the Acting President & Group Chief Executive Officer with effect from June 5 until further notice.

In a filing today, the group said the Board is carrying out the process of selecting a replacement for the two positions, after the post was vacated following the passing of Badrul Feisal Abdul Rahim.

Azmin was formerly the group’s Chief Operating Officer and Group Chief Financial Officer till his retirement on June 30, 2019.

However he resumed service on April 1 this year as the Chief Operating Officer – Corporate, to facilitate execution of selected special projects and key initiatives under the group’s transformation agenda, the filing said.

UWM said the appointment of Azmin is based on his vast experience, leadership maturity and deep understanding of UMW’s operations.

“The board believes that Azmin is able to bring strong leadership to ensure the continuity of ongoing initiatives in allowing the Group to execute its strategies and plans that are already in place for its next stage of growth with minimum disruptions,” it said.

Azmin started his career at Kontena Nasional Sdn Bhd in 1982 as an Accounts Executive and eventually rose to become the Chief Executive Officer from 2003 to 2008.

In September 2009, he joined UMW group as the executive director, group financial services division and was promoted to the position of Group COO in October 2015.
